Guys and Dolls

I just  love it when a man calls a woman, "Doll."  I do.  I admit it.  Feminism, equality . . . I'm not talking anything about that.  I'm just saying, there is something so "old school," so Sinatra, about a man calling a woman, "Doll."

I overheard a mature gentleman on the phone with his wife this morning.  He ended with, "Okay, Doll, I'll call you when I'm finished here."  I love that.

I don't know if my husband could pull that off.  He may be too young.  Perhaps a man must be of a certain age to say, "Doll," and have it sound right.  Maybe there needs to be a certain air.  I'm not sure, but I'm willing to explore . . .

But would that mean I'd have to become a real dame?

I love it too...hubby does it all the time, and also the "baby" one too Patti, but then we are old and into nostalgia as you know. Ole Blue eyes being one of my favorites. Oh and I love the "dames" you showed, plus don't forget the "broads" too, they were also called babes and dolls too.

Do you think there's a difference between a dame and a broad? Is it that dames are "intriguing," and broads are more brassy and salty? That's what I've always thought, but who knows?

I've always suspected that the difference between Dames and Broads was in the caliber of whoever was uttering the phrase.(a'la James Cagney). Each word conjurs up a different scenario in my mind, warped as it is at times :-)! Then, there's "honey" from a complete stranger... a discussion for another time!

Becky, do I sense a 'tude? Not a fan of the "Honey" as issued by a stranger???
