Saturday 9

Happy Saturday 9!

1. No matter what's going on in your life, what always makes you smile?  The sight of my son in his pajamas, watching my pigeons, Bob Newhart.

2. What's the biggest lie you've ever told?  A lie by omission.  I didn't tell my husband that I was independently wealthy until after we were married.  My family has always hidden its fortune for safety purposes.  Once I told him, though, he was pretty darned surprised.  That was fun.

3. Do you hold a grudge?  Totally.

4. What is the worst job you've ever had?  My first job when I worked for a crazy dentist who would slap bloody cotton rolls (right out of the patient's mouth) into my bare hand and mutter under his breath all day if he had a fight with his wife, which he often did.  I also had to make his sandwiches for lunch, relay messages to his wife when they were not speaking, and entertain the patients while he sat in his office smoking despite being an hour behind schedule.  Thanks for the flashbacks!

5. What would be your dream job?  A Radio City Rockette, obviously, but assuming you mean in THIS life, a successful author or columnist.

6. What is the happiest event you've experienced?  Finding out I was pregnant with my son.  I thought I was gliding on air for days.

7. What is the saddest thing you've experienced?  My mother-in-law died before our eyes and it was excrutiating.

8. Do you tend to exaggerate or underestimate?  I am the biggest-most-hugest exaggerator in the entire world!

9. List the cars that you have owned. Give us just a few words about each one.

First car = 1977 Ford Mustang.  Green, White Vinyl Landau Top.  I loved that car.  I bought it in 1988 and it only had 32,000 miles on it and was like brand new -- even still had the original Mustang floor mats.

Second car = The ubiquitous red Ford Escort.  This was the first car I ever bought new.  It was just what I needed for that time in my life -- working full time, going to college full time, too.  Lots of running around.  It was totaled in an accident while I was living in Michigan.  That accident ruined me for driving in slippery conditions for life.

Third car = Black Ford Escort that I shared with my husband once my car was totaled.  We couldn't afford another car at the time as we were then both full-time students and part-time employees.  Oh well, we certainly spent more time together, AND spent a lot more time waiting around to be picked up!

Fourth car = Blue Ford Taurus.  We finally had just enough money to buy a second car, and really needed one as now we were out of school.  We had to take what we could get, though, and could not really choose the style, model, or color.  Of all my cars, this one suits me the least and, of course, has lasted the longest.  This is the car that just won't die and we just can't justify replacing.  It runs like a pro and never needs a thing and still only has 40,000 miles on it to this day.  It's my husband's car now, and he has a very short commute to work.

Fifth car = By now we had our son, so  . . . you guessed it, a mini-van:  Blue Ford Windstar.  I know.  Ten years prior to getting this thing, my husband and I sat in an artsy little bistro and swore and drank to the pact to never, ever own a mini-van.  How boring and devoid of style they were.  Well, once my son came along with all his equipment -- strollers, playpens, diaper bags, etc. -- nothing looked sexier to us than a nice, roomy, reliable, safety-rated mini-van.  And that's what I'm still driving.

Have a Saturday, and, as always, thanks to Crazy Sam for this week's Saturday 9.

P.S.  Regarding #2 -- THAT was the biggest lie I ever told.

Field Trip! Everyone in the Van!

Well, I don't know about you, but I've had enough of this place. It has been a challenging week and it's only Thursday.  I need a field trip. Everyone grab a cuppa and hop in the van -- let's get out for a while.

How do you like our ride?  These two will take us wherever we want to go in style . . .

How 'bout here:
 Let's go!

Look at all these milk cartons!  Remember when milk came in brightly color cartons?  They looked a lot more cheerful than the gloomy jugs we have now.

 See any you remember?

How 'bout these little school milks, remember these?

White or chocolate?
What's with the iced tea one?

Okay, milk's not your thing . . .

How about this booth:

See anything you like?

How 'bout that bike?  I had one much like it when I was a kid.  I should have gotten a special shot of the daisies on the seat.  Mine was powder blue, though.  I really, really wanted the orchid one with the gears, but my parents insisted a 6 year old did not really need gears and hand-brakes.  Whatever.

I could take those pink and black bar stools in the back.  Think of the room you could make around those.  Anything catch your eye?

For the energy-conscious lamp user.

Perhaps you need a new man?

G.I. Joe, anyone?

Of course, there's always the obligatory PEZ booth:

Personally, I just don't get this, but to each their own . . . it keeps them away from my kind of stuff.

Like these lovely ladies:

PEZ dispenser collectors NEVER arm wrestle me over these.

This is my kind of booth.  I love kitcheny antiques.

Are you in the market for a piece of your childhood?

See anything you had?  I might have had something like that big red plastic horn.

Thirsty?

Okay, maybe we should split up for a while.  You know, in case you want to buy me a surprise or something.  I'll meet you at the end of the aisle . . .

All done?

Well, did that do it?  Feel better now?

Me, neither . . .

Next stop -- Florida!

What?  It is TOO real!

Thanks for hanging around with me today,

Green Eggs and . . . Chicken?

Did you know yesterday was Ted Geisel's birthday?  That he would have been 106??  I wouldn't have known either, had Sheila over at My Empty Nest is Full of Cat Hair (how can you not love that title?) not told me yesterday.

Still not ringing a bell?  Try this:

Ah, there we go!  Yes, Dr. Seuss, himself.  Upon reading Sheila's post, I reflected momentarily on reading The Cat in the Hat to my kids.  How they would laugh and laugh, and what pure joy it was to read aloud due to its brilliant rhythm.  I smiled inside and then . . .

I went about my busy day. . .

And you won't believe what came my way!

Did you know I have a hen who looks like The Cat in the Hat?

Well, except with a beak and without the big hat.

Here, have a look,

At this queer-looking chook:

Well, I went out to visit

This great little Wizzit,

And would you believe it?

That's when I spied it!

There it was all a'wash in a sheen,

The so-written-of egg that really is green!

This was her first one, this egg so, so keen.

My hen, Dr. Seuss, most surely did glean.

Make Me a Maminka Girl!

Look at this beautiful little lass I won from Loribeth at Maminka Girl:

How sweet she is.  She will keep me company right next to my computer here.  Loribeth was also so generous as to include a strand of lucky charm paper garland skillfully sewn into a generous length.  (For the life of me, I cannot get a good picture of it, I'm sorry.)

Loribeth is a real talent, and I love to go visit and meet all her latest creations.  Thanks Loribeth!

Award Thanks

I received a wonderful award last week:

Isn't it pretty?

It was given to me by Mumsy at Raw Thoughts and Feelings.  Mumsy's blog is, just as the title describes, raw and real.  It can be a real departure from so many other blogs that focus on decorating or crafting or whatever is easy to talk about.  Mumsy courageously explores the pain in her life, both past and present, and generously shares her experiences with her readers.

Thank you, Mumsy.  I appreciate your recognition, especially because our blogs are often so different from one another's.

A Note of Thanks

I logged in this morning, to write something here,
And what to my wandering eye should appear?

One hundred dear followers and a happiness tear.
I give each of you my gratitude, my heart most sincere.
